Underpinning its commitment to innovation in the field of retail-ready packaging, UK-based Polymer Logistics has globally launched the world’s first wood-effect crate, perfect for stores who want to boost the look and feel of their fresh produce aisles.

The rise and rise of fresh produce sections in retail is a worldwide trend, complementing the driving consumer interest in foods that are natural, healthy, local and real.

More and more retailers are recognising the fact that the perception of ‘fresh, natural and healthy’ in their stores can lead to increased sales and are upgrading their produce sections. While store design and layout is being adapted to reflect this, Polymer Logistics asserts that the display crates that hold the produce still look very generic and sterile.

“Our new wood-effect crate presents the opportunity for retailers to switch away from non-descript plastic crates and to actually influence buyer perception in terms of the market feel,” says a Polymer Logistics’ spokesman. “What’s more for retailers who are actually using real wooden crates, our new solution is more sustainable and offers a significant advantage in terms of hygiene.”

Having made its debut at Fruit Logistica 2014 in Berlin earlier this year, the new wood-effect crate offers robust product protection during transportation and is both foldable and stackable to maximise truck and store space.

The crates use an active lock system that enables store workers to fold away the crates efficiently and ergonomically when not in use.

In advance of its official launch, the new wood-effect plastic crate has already undergone successful trials with leading retailers.
